Sam Green on the Objet blog posted a wonderful article about 3d printing in regard to Iron Man II suits.
I just want to set the record straight. Not that there is anything glaringly wrong with what Sam mention but there may be some clarification needed.
Although some pieces were used directly from the Objet printer, most were not. The bulk of the parts were remolded and produced in light weight epoxies. There was also some fine finishing that had to be done to the part. The remarkable thing with objet printers are the builds are gorgeous but still tiny build lines are apparent. When doing an immaculate automotive finish like the artist achieved on the suits a very small amount of priming and sanding has to be performed. When this finishing is performed after the build has taken place in an objet printer your work is reduced exponentially.
Also be aware of the build volume of the eden. If a component of Iron Man's armor is larger than that than there is a good possibility it was done in parts or possible done in another manner.
It was my understanding that many of the attributes of whiplashes costume were used directly from the eden. Still some remolding in rtv silicone molds and duplication were performed.
